Technical School Grant

$5000 College Scholarship


Silicon Valley Power, the City of Santa Clara's Electric Utility, will provide tuition grants to students with a goal of entering a field related to energy services, public power, and/or the power industry. Up to three scholarships will be awarded at $5,000 each.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a resident of the City of Santa Clara and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Possess a high school diploma or be a high school senior
  • Be enrolled in a community college, college, or technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, by the time the scholarship is awarded or no later than October 1, 2015 
  • Submit an application with cover letter
  • Meet the application requirements (school transcripts, three letters of recommendations, answers to four essay questions, and an interview)
  • Demonstrate the goal of entering a field related to energy services, public power, or the power industry, including a four year degree in a discipline related to public power and/or energy industry (i.e. engineering, technology, science, mathematics, economics, finance, environmental science, political science, or business administration)

Evaluation Process

An Evaluation Committee composed of representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Santa Clara Unified School District, and Mission College will review and select scholarship candidates. GPA may be used in evaluating applicants. Evaluation committee representatives may not be related to City of Santa Clara officials or employees.

Application Deadline

Completed application packets must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014. Postmarks and faxes are not acceptable. Application packets can be mailed or brought to:

Administration

The Scholarship Award Program will be managed and administered by Silicon Valley Power, the Electric Utility of the City of Santa Clara.

$2,000 Technical School Grant

Silicon Valley Power, the City of Santa Clara's Electric Utility, will provide tuition grants to students with a goal of entering a field related to energy services, public power, and/or the power industry. Up to five technical grants will be awarded at $2,000 each.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a resident of the City of Santa Clara and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Possess a high school diploma or be a high school senior
  • Be enrolled in a community college, college, or technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, by the time the scholarship is awarded or no later than October 1, 2015 
  • Submit an application with cover letter
  • Meet the application requirements (school transcripts, one letter of recommendation, paragraph describing why the applicant is interested in developing a skill in the area related to the energy industry, and an interview)
