Silicon Valley Power is partnering with Tinker LLC to bring a new energy education program to Santa Clara schools. If you teach fourth grade or high school Civics or Environmental Science and want to help your students become leaders in energy efficiency, this Energy Education Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity and is paid for by Silicon Valley Power.

Program Goals:

  • To provide teachers with content that enriches current curriculum and supports California Department of Education standards.
  • To educate students about the importance of electricity and sustainability.
  • To provide students with the tools to be responsible users of energy for a lifetime.

The Energy Education Program is designed to teach students about energy and why it should be used wisely and responsibly. The unit is offered through an online web app that is accessible both in the classroom and by those learning from home.

For teachers, the web app is designed in a clearly structured usable format, making implementation easy. The unit can be broken up into lessons that can be taught over a day, month, or semester. It is up to you!

For students, the unit is engaging and fun. Students compete for prizes while learning about energy in our community and participating in hands-on activities.

The visual and hands-on lessons are Common Core and CDE Standards correlated and provide an excellent supplement to your classroom. Tinker’s experience has shown that students often lack the in-depth understanding of energy systems that may be necessary to take action to save money and carbon emissions. This program seeks to fill in the blanks and inspire students to make changes in their own lives.
